The History of Art Department, within the College of Letters and Science, has approximately 35 graduate students, 80 undergraduate majors, and 15 permanent faculty members. In addition, the Department appoints a number of exceptionally qualified temporary academic staff, including lecturers, adjuncts, and GSIs. The Department is located on the top floors of the beautiful Doe Library, boasting expansive views of the city and bay from the office balconies. Facilities include dedicated classrooms and a Visual Resources Center, which houses a large multi-purpose academic space. The Department is committed to fostering a community that appreciates diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging. As a member of a cluster of Arts and Humanities departments (including Rhetoric and Film & Media), staff members have the benefit of working within a small, tight-knit community, while maintaining connections to a larger team and its resources.
The Visualization Lab for Digital Art History (V-Lab) is an academic support unit that meets the information and technology needs of faculty and students in the arts and humanities through access to its collections, digital project support, programming, outreach efforts, and media services. The V-Lab team is a creative group of information professionals and technologists that connect faculty and students to emerging technologies and media resources relevant to scholarship, teaching, and publishing in the Digital Age. Through project-based partnerships with UC Berkeley faculty and students, the V-Lab seeks to advance technological innovation in the Digital Humanities.

Responsibilities
Instructional Technology Support
- As part of the History of Art Visual Resources Center team, maintains and troubleshoots classroom technology and A/V equipment for History of Art classrooms and event spaces.
- Tracks equipment usage and oversees implementation of checkout procedures and policies.
- Maintains and upgrades computers systems, video-conferencing equipment, and software.
- In collaboration with History of Art staff and faculty, researches and determines hardware and software solutions for department needs.
V-Lab Event Support
- Oversees general and technical support for departmental events, including A/V assistance, event space setup, and scheduling.
- Works closely with History of Art staff on event capture and live-streaming, as needed.
- Performs general clerical/office work in support of Visual Resources Center daily operations.
- Administrative support for V-lab student groups, hackathons, and workshops in lab event space.
- facilitates space rentals and booking requests
Conduct trainings with emerging teleconferencing equipment and troubleshoot related issues.
Provides backup assistance for website/social media support for events, in the event that department graphic design specialist is unavailable.
Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Two (2) years of full-time related experience providing general technical and/or administrative support.
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication.
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative, work independently, and contribute to the success of a team in deadline-driven environment.
- Excellent time management skills and ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
- Strong technical ability with attention to detail.
- Proficiency supporting current versions of Windows and Mac operating systems.
- Knowledgeable in the use of technology for teaching and learning purposes.
- Advanced knowledge of productivity software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- High School Diploma or equivalent experience or training.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience maintaining hardware and software in educational setting.
- Familiarity with audio-visual technologies, projection equipment, and willingness to learn.
- Basic familiarity with copyright in editorial/publishing setting desirable.
Salary & Benefits
This is a 50% full-time (20 hrs a week) non-exempt career position, which is paid bi-weekly and eligible for full UC Benefits. Hourly pay for this role is commensurate with experience.
