The Creative Experiences and Engagement team at Northeastern University plans and executes a multitude of in-person, hybrid, and digital events and programs that underscore the mission and goals of the University Advancement division and the wider university, engaging its constituents and distinguished guests including alumni, donors, parents, students, faculty, staff, and the external community.
Reporting to the Executive Director, Creative Experiences and Digital Engagement, the Associate Director, Advancement Events plans and executes events, experiences and programming that supports the cultivation, fundraising, donor recognition, and high-level engagement efforts of University Advancement and the wider university.
The Associate Director will collaboratively create standout in-person, digital, and hybrid experiences and events, and contribute to the rethinking of traditional engagement and recognition strategies. Skilled in digital platforms and associated technologies, they will ensure flawless production and attendee experience. The Associate Director will be responsible for strategic and creative production of events, working closely with clients to determine and define the strategic vision of experiences, defining and building an audience, and ensuring that the event aligns with the division's strategic goals.
The Associate Director will also partner with Advancement Communications to create compelling content, design, and marketing collateral (both digital and print) and to effectively brand and market events and experiences.
The Associate Director will independently manage a portfolio of high-impact experiences, responsible for logistical planning (food & beverage, AV/lighting, space set-up and diagramming, decor and design, etc.), guest management, content creation, volunteer management, on-site execution, and post-event reporting for assigned experiences and events.
The Associate Director will be responsible for the hiring and management of student workers and co-op students, training them to provide superior customer service and flawless execution of work. Co-op students will support the execution of event logistics as well as creative design, marketing, and social media responsibilities. Therefore, the Associate Director must also build and maintain strong working knowledge of Northeastern branding and style guidelines.
Working closely with Advancement, Development, President's Office, Board of Trustees and other high-visibility offices, the Associate Director is a key partner across the university, and interacts with attendees including alumni, donors, senior leadership, governance members, and other distinguished guests.
The Associate Director must demonstrate the ability to work in a fast-paced, innovative environment and possess high levels of customer service and professionalism.
Must be available for morning/evening/weekend hours and able to travel domestically and internationally as needed. This position is not available for remote work.
Education & Experience
Bachelor's degree and at least 6-8 years of increasingly responsible experience in events management required. Familiarity or experience in higher education is a plus.
A strong portfolio that showcases a wide range of experience producing events that are creative, innovative, strategic and visually enticing. Must demonstrate ability to produce events holistically from start to finish, with a multifaceted approach that includes logistics, marketing, guest management, programming and content, vendor relationships, budgeting, client relations, post-event follow up, and more.
Demonstrated experience utilizing digital platforms and technologies that enable virtual experiences and event creation.
Experience with Salesforce, Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Cvent, Social Tables, Zoom, and other event technologies is preferred.
Strong computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) is required.
Experience managing staff and volunteers is preferred. Strong organizational and communication skills. Must be extremely detail-oriented, able to work independently, and prioritize work to meet expectations and deadlines.
Demonstrated relationships with key vendors, and involvement in industry organizations is preferred.

Must understand and demonstrate discretion, diplomacy, collaboration, and relationship building - all qualities needed to be successful in a team environment.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
