Purpose of the Role
As a member of the Obama Presidential Center (OPC) Museum Team reporting to the Manager of Integrated Media, you will lead critical coordination and integration work focused on audiovisual systems supporting the museum exhibit spaces and related areas in the Obama Presidential Center. You will do this work in close collaboration with the OPC Operations & Implementation, Information Technology, and Product & Technology teams as well as construction project managers, architects, exhibition designers, and their sub-consultants.
You will work closely with the exhibition designers, architects, and their sub-consultants to review and finalize bid documentation around the audiovisual hardware and systems, including collecting and providing feedback on systems documentation deliverables, manage the procurement process for selecting the exhibit AV integrator and monitor installation of exhibit AV systems.
After the opening of the Obama Presidential Center, you will play a key role in maintaining the exhibit AV systems, planning for audiovisual needs and future evolution in the core and temporary exhibit spaces of the OPC, and directly supervising one or more audiovisual technicians.
Core Job Responsibilities
Strategy and documentation
- Participate in planning, development, installation and maintenance of all OPC exhibit AV systems to support operational, experiential, security, and accessibility needs
- Facilitate prototyping and testing of systems to ensure successful integrations, including collaboration with exhibit AV integrator and exhibit Media Producer(s), as well as with the OPC Manager of Integrated Systems.
- Guide the creation of all exhibit AV systems manuals and as-built documentation
- Develop and maintain mechanisms for tracking exhibit AV system needs, ownership, status, and budget
- Advocate for accessibility and inclusive design needs, including coordinating with relevant consultants on exhibit AV systems design approaches
Vendor procurement, project management, and team supervision
- Facilitate selection and procurement process for exhibit AV Integrator and oversee the creation of bid package documents and RFPs
- Day to day management of exhibit AV Integrator throughout the fabrication and installation phases
- Oversee the transition from design project to opening the OPC, including exhibit AV technical staffing to support ongoing maintenance of all exhibit AV systems
- Coordinate with Museum Team on maintenance of exhibit AV systems and plans for temporary special exhibitions, and with OPC Operations & Implementation team on strategy for integrating and coordinating work with wider OPC and campus integrated systems
- Coordinate with exhibit maintenance team and technicians; direct oversight of one or more audiovisual technicians
- Perform other duties as assigned
Key Deliverables / Outcomes
- Comprehensive review of exhibit bid package documentation related to exhibit AV systems
- Management of smooth and effective bid and procurement process for exhibit AV integrator
- Effective coordination of exhibit AV systems strategy and integration approach across exhibition and other OPC and campus-wide systems
Required Qualifications
- Proven experience managing integration projects for the built environment, preferably in a museum or within the cultural sector
- Demonstrated experience and expertise in planning and executing complex projects, including budget and schedule development/oversight, and a track record of working with vendors (especially media producers, architects and designers) and internal stakeholders to build trust, maintain positive working relationships and achieve win-win outcomes
- Deep understanding of connected systems, including network design, show control, and building management and automation systems; as well as familiarity with cutting-edge technology in lighting, show control, A/V systems, and building management
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills and an ability to translate technical concepts for a general audience
- Creative approach to problem solving, acknowledging that a more complex solution to implement may result in long-term efficiencies
- Willingness and ability to travel and work long and/or unusual hours as necessary to accommodate deliveries/shipments, construction or exhibition installation schedules, and other operational requirements
