Responsibilities The Communications and Network Technical Analyst 3 will conduct and coordinate planning, design, construction and alternation of Low Voltage Electrical System Cabling Infrastructure and IT spaces. Read and interpret construction drawings and specifications. The Communications and Network Technical Analyst 3 will independently create job schedules, coordinate with users, and plan cabling work. Maintain current knowledge of industry, changes applicable to security, wireless, hardwired, AV, Cellular and other systems as they affect IT infrastructure structured and other types of cabling. The Communications and Network Technical Analyst 3 will Work with construction professionals for submittal approval for IT facilities.
Ability to convey knowledge concerning industry standards associated with low voltage and fiber optic cabling to represent IT in a professional manner.
Ability to read, interpret, comment and correct traditional construction drawings and specifications on all IT installations.
Able to enter a confined space such as a maintenance vault or asbestos confinement.
Able to lead and manage cabling crews providing deliverables to IT and the University.
Able to understand and act based on verbal or written direction to complete tasks within this position description
In depth knowledge of materials necessary to select an acceptable, electrical or optical, medium to transport to complete a design.
Knowledge of electrical properties governing the transmission of electrical signals over copper transmission mediums.
Knowledge of optical properties governing the transmission of light over fiber optic cabling.
Skilled in testing copper and fiber cabling.
Able to estimate cabling installations, supports, attachments, labor and materials for typical IT construction work.
Able to read and analyze fiber and copper test results for University acceptance.
Able to terminate typical Data Cable and/or Fiber Cable.
In depth knowledge of Fire and National Electrical Code, as it pertains to IT deliverables, to guide and facilitate IT installations to fruition while maintaining building code.
Knowledge and ability to use underground locating equipment.
Knowledge of electronic equipment pertaining to DAS and 70 paging systems.
Knowledge pertaining to the installation and termination of fiber, copper, coax, 18/2, dvi, hdmi, and other common communications cabling mediums.
Skilled in developing drawings to enable other IT teams to proceed with installation deliverables.
Skilled in developing drawings to illustrate IT cabling deliverables.
Special Requirements This position may be subject to a criminal background investigation, drug screen, Live Scan fingerprinting, medical evaluation clearance, and functional capacity assessment.
