The Technology Support Specialist, reporting to the Director, MIS Enterprise Infrastructure and Systems, will provide MIS technical services to both staff and student support teams. The Specialist functions as primary support for help desk systems (with case management based on Dynamics365) and supports University computer desktops, including both hardware and software. This position participates in projects that support the implementation of University-wide administrative applications, providing training and guidance for staff use of University technologies. This position also provides support for student academic technologies. Finally, selected candidate maintains the audio/visual equipment used at the University.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Install and configure computer hardware, including personal computers, monitors, printers and other peripheral equipment. - Install and configure University supported computer software, including commercial, third party and in-house developed programs and systems. - Upgrade computer hardware and software, including flashes, patches and service releases. - Maintain and support audio/visual and video conferencing systems. - Troubleshoot, diagnose and repair computer-related problems, including identification of source, whether network, software, hardware or user, correction of problem, or, where necessary, elevation to higher-level or outside resource. - Provide team services for support of University desktops & applications. - Maintain and update infrastructure and end-user documentation, policies and knowledge base articles for both staff and students. - Assist with maintaining Office365. - Provide end-user initial and/or remedial training sessions. - Be proficient with computer systems hardware and software. - Be knowledgeable with advanced Microsoft Office suite topics. - Perform other duties and responsibilities, as requested.
Examples of Work:
- Create an inventory and a preventative maintenance program to service all audiovisual equipment. Promote a quality level of service to clients through efficient audiovisual setup. - Maintaining current documentation for the various functional AV and video conferencing equipment used by University staff. - Responsible for planning and overseeing delivery, setup, operation and retrieval of audiovisual equipment in response to daily scheduled requirements. - Working with staff to ensure they are comfortable utilizing equipment, software, and manuals. - Conduct training sessions for staff members in the use of video conferencing equipment. - Recommend and acquire system upgrades and new equipment as necessary. - Respond to user help desk cases. - Repair\replace desktop computers and printers where necessary. - Complete preventive maintenance and equipment replacement. - Support of all events requiring audio/visual and computing technology.
Knowledge Skills & Abilities:
- Understand and operate LCD projectors, video players, sound systems, cameras, recording - Demonstrated experience working with Video Conferencing equipment. - Experience working in a complex networked computing environment. - Demonstrable familiarity of desktop operating systems. - Strong customer service skills via electronic, telephonic and in person delivery. - Basic knowledge of networking equipment. - Experience repairing and replacing desktop computers and printers. - Ability to develop system documentation. - Experience installing and operating all types of A/V equipment. - Ability to study and recommend A/V systems and upgrades throughout the campus. - Experience installing and configuring computer hardware, including personal computers, laptops, tablets, displays, printers and other peripherals. - Experience troubleshooting, diagnosing and repairing computer-related problems, including identification of source, whether network, software, hardware or user, correction of problem, or, where necessary, elevation to higher-level or outside resource. - Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills.
Education: Graduation from an accredited college with a Bachelor's degree.
Experience: One (1) year of professional experience in an institution of higher education or in education, higher education or other field that is directly related to the functions of the position to be filled, or equivalency as determined by the appointing authority.
The minimum education experience standards for positions classified under this class title will vary depending upon the requirements of the specific position to be filled. In each case, these minimums will be determined at the discretion of the appointing authority.
Applicants who do not possess the required education may substitute required experience on a year-for-year basis (30 credit hours is considered one year of college).
A Master's degree in a field related to the position to be filled may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
