The Department of Chemistry seeks an IT specialist to support the Senior IT Manager in providing strategic IT planning for an academic research department of some 350 faculty, staff, researchers and graduate students and also carry out all routine computing needs, including website development and maintenance.
The specialist assists in the day-to-day management of the computing needs of the department's faculty, students, researchers, and staff, classrooms and computer labs, and conference/event spaces. The IT Specialist should be familiar with numerous technology systems, comfortable providing hands-on technical support, and focused on highly responsive customer service.
The successful candidate will have demonstrated ability to interact and collaborate effectively with a wide variety of constituencies, have a problem-solving mindset, and be able to handle multiple competing priorities simultaneously and smoothly. The incumbent will perform duties under the direction of the Senior IT Manager in chemistry.
Computing & Technology Support:
Provide technology support to the faculty, staff, students, researchers & visitors in the department.
Support, maintain and troubleshoot technical issues (desktop, laptop, printers, mobile devices).
Provide software support for a suite of products.
Provide guidance on technology purchases and installations, able to configure technology according to University guidelines. Provide technical guidance & setup for classroom lab space computers as needed.
Provide technical media support to conference rooms and auditorium, as needed.
Operations and Inventory Maintenance:
Assist in the support of chemistry's core facilities and stockroom inventory system when computing or software problems occur. Repair and replace hardware on out-of-warranty computers and devices not covered by OIT hardware support.
Prepare and manage data wipe and surplus of outdated systems and devices.
Assist in support of chemical inventory and lab e-notebook systems.
Website Maintenance and Development:
Assist in development of new departmental and lab group sites, with guidance of senior IT manager.
Associate's or equivalent technology degree.
Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to manage multiple tasks and quickly shift among competing priorities.
Customer service orientation, superior interpersonal skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with a broad array of people.
Superior computer and software skills and the ability to learn new systems quickly.
Knowledge of audio-visual and video conference technologies and services.
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word, SharePoint, PowerPoint and WordPress.
Must be able to lift 50lbs., climb stairs, twist, bend and work in physically awkward positions.
Experience with media solutions including the following is needed:
Video editing using Adobe Premiere
Video recording using Zoom and Teams with tablet integration
Experience using media equipment
Experience supporting and maintaining video equipment
Bachelor's degree preferred. Experience in an academic environment. Some experience with Drupal and WordPress a plus. Familiarity with Princeton University campus resources, computing systems, and culture. Occasional after hours and weekends for special events. Familiarity with media equipment a plus.Wordpress CMS knowledge and experience is preferred.
