As a unit within the Division of Student Life, the HUB supports the Husky Experience by enhancing UW community, providing a dynamic event center, and fostering student engagement. The HUB is committed to providing services to UW students, staff, faculty, and invited guests. The HUB is funded in part by the Services and Activities Fee (SAFC), and relies on its professional and student staff to carry out its mission to enrich student engagement.
HUB EVIS prides itself in the flexible nature of its event spaces and the customer service provided to clients of the HUB. EVIS is responsible for managing all aspects related to meeting and event spaces and building supervision outside of office hours. Additionally, EVIS staff manage the Information services provided at the HUB Main Desk, which include HUB Info Desk, HUB Lost & Found, HUB Ticket Office, and HUB Bulletin Boards.
The HUB Events and Information Services (EVIS) office has an outstanding opportunity for a Media Technician that enjoys working in a fast-paced environment and assisting in the planning of events.
Under the direction of the Supervisor for Event Services Operations, the Media Technician Lead is responsible for managing the work of the student Audio Technician and Facilities Services staff at the HUB. This position is directly responsible for hiring, training, scheduling and supervising 15 student employees, while managing resources to ensure quality in service delivery for events in the HUB. The Media Technician Lead will ensure audiovisual equipment is set up accurately with all rooms accessible to clients in a timely manner while meeting unit standards regarding quality, cleanliness and customer service.
Event Audio Visual Management: •Set, test, and maintain HUB event technical equipment including digital sound systems, monitors, special event lighting, projection and image magnification systems. •Monitor inventory of equipment and furnishings through an event management software system to ensure service delivery. •Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain HUB event technology equipment and recommend replacement when needed. •Review daily logs and follow up with staff to confirm successful completion of assigned tasks. •Create, review and check daily operations workflow on a web application/software system for timely service delivery by operations staff. •Assist with special event programs within the HUB. •Assist the Supervisor of Event Service Operations with other related duties
Supervision of Student Staff: •Coordinate, and direct student event staff in, the set-up of multi-media audio equipment such as microphones, mixers, monitors, stage gear, and custom lights. •Develop and maintain a dedicated Audio Technician student program. •Hire, train, schedule and evaluate up to 15 student operations staff. •Closely monitor the quality of work and services performed by student staff to ensure compliance with departmental standards on accuracy, cleanliness and customer service. •Serve on the HUB’s Student Staff development committee
Event Technical Consultation: •Advise clients on the use of HUB venues, audiovisual/technical equipment as well as campus and building policies in relation to events. •Recommend modifications in policy and procedure as needed. •Use graphic software to produce complex and detailed event diagrams. •Conduct in-person event consultation meetings to assist in the selection of appropriate event resources and services. •Analyze complex technical riders and stage plots to determine feasibility of service provision.

Qualifications •High School Graduate AND one year of experience as a Media Technician-Senior including six months of coordinating a media service operation OR equivalent education/experience
Additional Requirements: •Strong written and verbal communications skills with an emphasis on customer service. •Experience in event planning and technical production. •Technical knowledge and experience working with installed and portable audiovisual systems, mixers, cameras, speakers, and theatrical lighting systems. •Proficient in the use of various database software and web applications. •Experience in overseeing and supervising employees. •This position involves physical labor; must be willing and able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds and perform repetitive bending twisting and kneeling as a condition of employment. Working from lifts and ladders will also be required. •Must be willing and able to work weekends and evenings as needed as a condition of employment.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except where there are legal requirements such as license/certification/registration.
Preferred Qualifications •Previous experience working with students in a University or College setting. •Experience working in a hospitality or corporate audiovisual environment highly desired •Experience operating digital sound boards, and theatrical lighting systems
