Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Technical Coordinator A/V SRVS for Student Affairs. This position reports to the Technical Director of Student Centers and Activities. The Technical Coordinator A/V SRVS within the standards, goals, and vision set by the Senior Director of Student Centers and Activities, has primary responsibility for hiring, training, and assessing all student staff, and assist the Technical Director to ensure we consistently meet the needs of events held in the Student Centers. The six Centers, spread over five campuses in New Brunswick and Piscataway, combined are almost 400,000 square-feet, contain over 40 meetings rooms, host over 25,000 bookings annually, and have a foot-traffic equivalent of over 7.5 million people annually. Given the cross functional nature of the Student Centers and Activities Area, it is necessary for the Technical Coordinator A/V SRVS to participate in departmental and university initiatives the Assistant Technical Director collaborates regularly with and is expected to maintain productive working relationships with other university departments including Facilities Maintenance, Environmental Services, the Security and Technologies Shop, Student Affairs Information Technology, Public Safety, Risk Management, Procurement, Dining Services, RUTV, Conference Services, Alumni Relations, Admissions, Academic Schools, the President's Office, and the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, among others.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Ensures the highest level of technical services delivery, and is highly proficient in audio-visual systems, theatrical lighting, and live production.
Provides customer service and technical services in a collegiate or conference center environment.
Responsible for executing the priorities, goals, standards and vision to a comprehensive technical production team consisting of students, professional staff, and consultants.
Hires, supervises, manages, coaches, and evaluates student technical staff.
Assists the Technical Director with the execution of a routine and preventative maintenance program for the Centers technical systems and equipment.
Develops, implements, and delivers training programs and regular in-service modules for professional staff, student technical staff, as well as, other student center staff teams on production and technology-related equipment across the six centers.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Requires a bachelor’s degree in theatrical management, hospitality, or a technology related field required; Or and equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
A minimum of two years of experience in all facets of technical services, including theater lighting design and control, video production, and live production.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Possess good written and verbal communication skills.
Demonstrated effective ability to work under stress while completing complex projects with multiple competing timelines.
Demonstrated successful experience in exhibiting superb customer service philosophy and practices and ability to train accordingly.
Must be able to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends as events demands.
Demonstrated proficiency with computers and computer software required.Requires advanced experience in live theatrical lighting, sound, and video equipment and production.
Experience working in collegiate conference center environment preferred.
Three years of professional work experience in hotel, conference centers, performing arts center, facility management, event management, or college union operations, services and philosophy
Must have comprehensive high proficiency of lighting systems, ETC software, Crestron control systems and components, audio systems, Cat5/6 encoder/decoder systems for audio and video, and other related video and sound equipment
Able to properly and timely identify and repair problems with lighting and audio equipment including intelligent lighting.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Ability to lift moderately heavy items is necessary.
