The AV Specialist is responsible for the day-to-day operations of classroom/conference room AV technology on campus. The Specialist supports the faculty and staff of UMBC in the operation of AV technology. The Specialist also supports the AV Services team with installing new AV systems.
End user support for faculty, staff, and students
Installing, maintaining, and repairing classroom/conference room AV systems
Installing, maintaining, repairing and training students in the use of installed classroom technology
Supporting the operation and use of installed classroom/conference room technologies
Supporting sound systems including wired and wireless microphones, digital mixers, powered speakers, in-room installed sound systems, and other audio devices
Supporting USB-based video conferencing systems and other streaming systems
Configuration and routine software/firmware updates of AV control systems
Assists with consulting, design and engineering of classroom/conference room AV systems
Identifying tasks and projects necessary to maintain or enhance service
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Requires a Bachelor’s degree; some experience in AV technology installation and support; working knowledge of the theories and principles of sound, video, digital and analog signal types, and other AV concepts; the ability to apply standard theories, principles, practices, and techniques applicable to AV technology; strong organizational skills; excellent interpersonal, verbal and written skills.
A bachelor’s degree in media studies, information systems, instructional technology, communications or other related fields
Two or more years of experience in AV technology installation and support ideally in an educational environment
IT/AV industry and/or manufacturer certifications
Experience with soft client video conferencing applications such as Webex, Zoom, Skype, or similar programs
Working knowledge of basic networking concepts
