Position Summary: The WEC Technical Specialist is principally responsible for providing technical support for all users of the Wellness and Event Center (WEC) at NJIT. The position is the first line of defense against technical issues in the WEC:
Performing on-site setup and operational support of AV equipment used routine and major special events, conferences, and athletic events, especially high-end sound reinforcement systems, audio and video recording and streaming systems, and large presentation displays (both indoor and outdoor).
Supporting Core Systems and Telecommunications (CST) as the first point of contact for network and telephony issues.
Supporting Technology Support Services (TSS) as the first point of contact for end-point computing device issues.
Supervising, on occasion, a workforce of student technology assistants (STA) and part-time temporary workers in support of these events and conferences.
Performing routine maintenance of WEC audio, video, and scoring systems used both on site and those which connect to a cloud service.
Due to the nature of events scheduled in the WEC, this position will require a flexible schedule, which WILL include nights and weekends.
Prerequisite Qualifications: A Bachelor’s degree in a communications, computing, or technology related discipline or equivalent background.
2 years’ experience in an academic, athletic event center, corporate, conferencing, or other technology support environment.
2 years’ experience with athletic scoring and video capture systems.
2 years’ experience with audio recording technologies and sound reinforcement including equalization and feedback elimination.
Technical proficiency for operation of the various audio and video equipment used in the support of special events, including but not limited to digital media equipment, presentation equipment, public address systems, infrared and RF controls and security devices, audio mixing boards, video production and switching equipment, and personal computing devices.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Demonstrated problem solving and conflict resolution skills including the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of customers including faculty, students, staff, high profile and non-technical clientele, and a commitment to provide operational and technical support in an educational and athletics environment.
Demonstrated background in telephony, wireless, and networking support issues.
