The incumbent will be the department's in-house support and installation person for classroom and meeting room AV systems. Specific duties include: supporting video conference based instruction and meetings at IMET/UMBC; designing, building, maintaining, and repairing classroom and meeting room AV systems; researching and specifying equipment as assigned; supporting a variety of UMBC/IMET institutional events; consulting with faculty, staff and students as needed and requested; staying current with rapidly changing AV technology best practices and options in the field of AV technology; identifying tasks and projects that should be accomplished in order to maintain or enhance service, and working with others (OIT and other University staff) to have those tasks and projects completed under minimal direct supervision; resolving customer support tickets in a timely manner with appropriate communication; and performing other duties as assigned. This position will split time between UMBC’s main campus and our Columbus Center/IMET facility in downtown Baltimore. A valid driver’s license is required.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Requires a bachelor’s degree in AV technology, information systems, educational technology, communications, or related field. Working knowledge of networks, data communications, and multimedia preferably in an educational setting required. Must have strong organizational and interpersonal skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills required. Working knowledge of, and ability to apply, standard theories, principles, practices, and techniques applicable to AV technology preferred.
One year of experience in AV technology installation and support in an educational environment strongly desired.
