This position is responsible for routine exhibit production and maintenance including basic repairs and construction, installation and preparation work, and monitoring interactives and exhibit spaces at the Harvard Museums of Science & Culture. This position is part of a production team, reporting to the Exhibit Production and Maintenance Manager who directs the effort of the team in support of department goals.
Responsible for routine exhibit maintenance including case and object cleaning, re-lamping, and daily trouble-shooting of computer and video interactives
Performs basic repairs of physical exhibits, which may require various repair and construction techniques as well as painting and some basic carpentry
New exhibit work including painting, other space prep and building of exhibit structures and components
Responsible for various duties associated with exhibit deinstallation and installation work including installation of exhibit objects, graphics, AV/computer components and lighting
Cleaning and organization of exhibit shop and storage
Other related tasks as needed

At least one year of experience with general construction or carpentry and painting
Knowledge of and general experience with lighting, lamping, computers and AV technology
Must be comfortable and demonstrated capability working with a wide variety of power tools and workshop equipment: table saw, panel saw, circular saw, pneumatic tools, router, etc.
Mechanical aptitude essential
Technical or associate's degree in relevant field is strongly preferred
One or more years of specific experience with museum exhibit construction and installation strongly preferred
One or more years of experience handling museum objects strongly preferred
Must be able to routinely lift up to 60 lbs, climb stairs and work while walking or standing
Ability to work in metal or plastic, as well as wood a plus
Excellent painting skills preferred
Demonstrable experience with troubleshooting and repair of computer/AV equipment a plus
Must be dedicated to maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work environment and observe safety and risk management procedures in public areas and work spaces as determined
Ability to work collaboratively and as a member of a team absolutely required, as is an ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines
