The primary focus will be on the implementation of classroom audio/visual technologies, videoconferencing, web conferencing, video production, and related media technology. The Video and Collaborative Technologies Specialist reports to the Assistant Director of Academic and Learning Technologies and collaborates closely with a wide variety of staff and administrators throughout the School of Medicine, Health Sciences, other UW Departments, and other WWAMI institutions to identify, prioritize, and plan for school-wide media technology training support program to ensure high quality educational resources for faculty and medical students throughout the WWAMI region. The Video and Collaborative Technologies Specialist provides a balance of direct technology support to staff and faculty, and project based media production services. The role requires a high level of technical expertise, specifically knowledge of video production and videoconferencing methods and equipment as well as end-user hardware, software, and web systems implemented in the student curriculum. This position will have frequent contact with the School's academic and administrative leadership, faculty (based inside and outside Seattle), Academic Affairs staff, Dean's Office IT and the medical students on any number of educational technology issues. This position operates in a highly dynamic setting and requires a high degree of problem-solving skills, along with the ability to prioritize many competing tasks from administration, faculty, and Dean's Office staff while remaining calm under pressure. With the regional orientation of the medical school, the individual in this position must be service-oriented and customer-focused, able to address urgent technical questions from faculty, staff and students across the WWAMI region and to provide appropriate support in a professional, prompt and confidential manner.RESPONSIBILITIESVideo Production and Live Event ManagementIn consultation with faculty and other staff, provide both studio and field based video and audio production services for the creation of educational videos and other media for the School of Medicine curriculum.Consult with faculty and staff about their video content distribution needs to determine the best event delivery method via videoconference, web conference, live streaming video, or recorded media.Implement remote production support for live and/or recorded events in UW Health Sciences or other locations. Perform necessary test and setup of mobile equipment to ensure quality production, to include remote sites in tests as necessary. Conduct site surveys when necessary, assessing a facility's audio, video, and networking capabilities. Work with site staff to resolve issues in advance of the event.Develop, implement, and complete timely post-production editing and communication with event organizers to ensure distribution of captured content.Digital Media, Video Conferencing, and A/V Operation SupportDirect, day-to-day operations support for automated video capture using the UWSOM's video streaming platform. Determine recording needs based on the daily schedule of teaching events and schedule automated recordings. Monitor the recording system to ensure continuous operation.Monitor and assess quality control of student-employee editing and posting of video content. Ensure that the posting of video content is consistent with School of Medicine policy.Deliver hands-on support for classroom-based videoconferencing with other WWAMI sites; and assist in the management of videoconferencing operations for sessions involving medical student education and administration. Assess training needs, design and develop documentation, deliver scheduled and just-in-time trainings to presenters and other support staff to ensure their understanding of best practices and procedures in the use of appropriate educational technology tools, and to improve users' ability to support their own educational technology needs.Work in partnership with Health Sciences Classroom Services and other units to support daily A/V operations management and support staff and faculty in two lecture halls, 14 small group classrooms, and other teaching and administrative spaces.Provide troubleshooting of urgent problems to ensure smooth continuation of events.Media/Technical Project ManagementResearch and evaluate new technology acquisitions and/or upgrade to assist in the implementation of the MD curriculum. Identify requirements and evaluate available options to assist in the technology selection process. Provide input on specifications to developers for in-house applications.Collaborate with other School of Medicine, Health Sciences, and UW units to maintain robust planning for operation of standards-based videoconferencing, in addition to working closely with other WWAMI institutions to develop and update technical standards for new video-conferencing installations.Develop complex reports as needed on technology usage and results. Work with vendors and UW departments to evaluate other uses of educational technology and to conduct repairs to equipment.Represent Academic and Learning Technologies on Dean's Office, School of Medicine, and UW committees. Participate in national meetings on the use of learning technology in medical education. Collaborate with staff and peers from other units and other institutions on technology development and implementation.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTSBachelor's Degree in information technology, communications, education or related field and:Minimum of three years of video production experience, including remote production experience.Minimum of three years of videoconferencing production experience using hardware endpoints such as Polycom, Cisco/Tandberg, LifeSize, etc.Minimum of three years of web conferencing experience using systems such as Zoom, Skype for Business, WebEx, etc.Minimum of three years of video editing experience using software such as Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro, etc.Demonstrated ability to produce a variety of multimedia resources.Experience supporting teaching and learning activities, including synchronous and asynchronous distance learning modalities.Ability to work with faculty and staff at various levels of sophistication related to technology.Strong general knowledge of computing and ability to troubleshoot issues both in and out of the classroom.Ability to work independently, set priorities and meet deadlines while achieving a high degree of reliability, accuracy and productivity. Proven oral and written communication skills.Demonstrated experience working in large, highly structured environments.Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except where there are legal requirements such as license/certification/registration.PREFERRED EXPERIENCEFive or more years of experience in video production, videoconferencing, web conferencing, and video editing.In-depth understanding of mobile devices and special opportunities and challenges they pose to video and collaborative technologies.Experience working in a large institution of higher education.Strong knowledge of web publishing, including content management systems, HTML, and CSS.Knowledge of project management principles to ensure timely completion of complex initiatives.CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENTThe position may frequently require the employee to work beyond a normal work week (e.g. more than 40 hours a week) and frequently requires evening and weekend time to meet project deadlines and support events.Application Process:The application process for UW positions may include completion of a variety of online assessments to obtain additional information that will be used in the evaluation process.
