Berkeley Audio and Video Services (BAVS) offers a broad range of event production, staging, profession video production and technical support services for clients and events that take place on the UC Berkeley campus and in the greater Bay Area. Provides AV-IT Technical Support for Campus Events and support to learning spaces: •Applies advanced audio/video (AV) concepts to provide campus-wide technology support to faculty, instructors, and GSI’s teaching in general assignment (GA) classrooms. •Works with a variety of multimedia and audio-visual technologies including computer hardware and software, networks, AV equipment and emerging technologies. •Independently identifies and resolves a variety of complex technical issues and problems often under extreme time pressure to ensure the smooth technical operation of classroom teaching activities and/or events, escalates as appropriate and documents outcomes. •Leads and directs other technicians in performing technical support activities. Evaluates events, conferences. other public activities to determine the best technology for the event. Sets up and operates audio, video, computers, projectors, screens and related equipment. •Assesses technical requirements of complex events involving multiple speakers, computer displays, multiple video cameras, live webcast streaming. •May independently perform video post-production processes (digital editing, encoding, asset management).
Coordinates ETS facility and large lecture hall operations: •Leads and directs other technicians in performing technical support activities. Evaluates events, conferences, classes, and other public activities to determine the best technology for the event or class. Sets up and operates audio, video, computers, projectors, screens and related equipment. •Assesses technical requirements of complex classes or events involving multiple speakers, computer displays, multiple video cameras, live webcast streaming. •Partners with faculty or client to evaluate technical requirements of classes, conferences and events to provide ongoing and/or complex technical support in large lecture halls. •Operates instructional technology equipment in a variety of learning spaces, including classrooms, large lecture halls and video facilities. •Performs light maintenance of facilities and equipment. • Serves in a lead capacity over other technicians; participates in interviews; trains staff.
Consults on the use of technology and learning outcomes: •Conducts consultations with faculty on appropriate and effective use of technology to support their desired instructional activities. •Instructs faculty and other clients in the use of technology in instructional settings, including use of technology for computer data and video projection and videoconferencing. •Understands intellectual property (IP) restrictions and policies and ensures that media meet IP requirements. •Inventories, maintains, upgrades and secures equipment. •Works in a collaborative manner with a diverse campus community to deliver classroom technology services and assist in the development of pilot programs that identify and incorporate new technology trends in teaching and learning.•Strong understanding of production & postproduction techniques, processes, systems, and applications to include: Camera equipment, lighting equipment, microphones and other audio production equipment. •Demonstrated ability to shoot, edit, and publish high quality video productions with minimum 4 years experience working in a fast-paced professional production environment. •Demonstrated ability to successfully work with clients on a broad variety of engaging production projects. •Strong communication skills - Ability to communicate technical/production specific details to audiences of varying technical/production specific fluency. •Strong organizational skills – Ability to track details for multiple production projects with overlapping production schedules and delivery deadlines. •Strong understanding of, and proven ability to use, business applications such as MS Office (Word & Excel), SalesForce, Google Suite, etc. •Demonstrated ability to use experience, judgment and ingenuity to successfully complete assignments and assist clients under pressure and tight deadlines. •Excellent written and verbal interpersonal skills in order to work with both technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization (students, staff and faculty). •Ability to work independently, respond to changing priorities and multitask. •Ability to understand and Apply UC policy regarding purchasing, travel, risk management, etc. •Ability to analyze technical problems involving the signal flow between IT and AV equipment, conduct testing and research to determine appropriate solution. •Understands intellectual property (IP) restrictions and policies and ensures that media meet IP requirements.
Education/Training: •Bachelors degree or equivalent and advanced experience or training in Video Production or AV-IT related area.
