The Instructional and Simulation Support Administrator coordinates and assists with the management of the School of Anesthesia skills lab and simulation center, assures the effective and efficient operation of the lab, assesses and provides for meeting program and student needs, and oversees the operation of high and medium fidelity technology to ensure safe and effective use of the simulation equipment. The Instructional and Simulation Support Administrator provides instructional support for faculty, staff, and students of the School of Anesthesia by managing and overseeing networked-based video communications. The Instructional and Simulation Support Administrator installs, maintains, troubleshoots, and supports network infrastructure, equipment, applications, and devices to ensure the successful delivery of e-Learning modalities related to the School of Anesthesia.
Description of Primary Duties:
Installs, maintains and monitors video communication equipment and applications to ensure compatibility, efficiency, security, and performance
Develops and implements clinical simulation to meet accreditation standards, continuously updates and refines simulation experiences based on identified needs, and serves as a resource for faculty utilizing simulation in classroom/lab activities, under the direction of a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA).
Maintains the lab inventory, ensures the safe storage and disposal of materials, monitors and assures appropriate standards of lab cleanliness, and provides for equipment maintenance, repair, and replacement.
Assists with the development and implementation of clinical simulation.
Coordinates with and utilizes the expertise, support, and equipment by meeting regularly and maintaining communication with MCHHS – Technology Services regarding procurement, implementation, problem determination and resolution, training, and the development of user computing standards.
Keeps the website current and assists with marketing of School of Anesthesia programs, including social media and publications.
Minimum Acceptable Qualifications:
Education/Experience: A Bachelor's degree and a minimum of three years of experience supporting a wide range of information technology in a fast-paced, cross-functional, and team environment or an equivalent combination of education and experience as specified in the Job Family 3 Knowledge Equivalencies Chart is required. Experience installing and managing distance e-Learning hardware and software is required. Experience working in a higher education environment is preferred.
Skills: A working knowledge or proven capability to quickly learn simulation lab, distance learning, video streaming and recording technologies is required. Knowledge of networking and various configurations that may impact video communications and distance learning is required. The ability to resolve technical issues related to video communications events quickly and effectively is required. Knowledge of the theory, principles, and practices of video communications and distance learning systems and applications is required. Knowledge and understanding of computer security procedures is required. A demonstrated ability to quickly troubleshoot, identify, and correct problems using system utilities and diagnostics is required. Familiarity with systems analysis procedures and techniques is required. A thorough knowledge of hardware, software, and operating system configuration and connectivity, including Microsoft Office productivity suites, for desktops, mobile devices, and workstations is required. Excellent troubleshooting skills to support a wide variety of University software and hardware are required. A basic understanding of security principles, networks, and server administration and cloud systems is required. Familiarity with the installation, maintenance, and support of wireless technologies is required. Strong verbal and written communication skills and effective interpersonal skills sufficient to interact with a variety of users and other technical staff are required. Strong customer service skills are required. The ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of a work assignment and to participate as a member of a cross-departmental project team is required. Excellent time management skills and organizational abilities are required. The ability to work under pressure, meet inflexible deadlines, and deal with difficult situations while maintaining composure is required. The ability to work effectively with a variety of constituencies possessing a wide range of technical knowledge is required. The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds is required. Knowledge and understanding of video communications technologies, such as telepresence, H.323 videoconferencing, IP video, desktop video solutions, live and stored video streaming, and video event scheduling software are preferred. Functional knowledge of video streaming is preferred. The ability to use various video encoding solutions is preferred. The ability to use nonlinear editing software is preferred. Functional knowledge of A/V components such as cameras, video switchers, audio equipment and lighting products and familiarity with basic video production techniques is preferred.
Other: The twenty-four-hour scope of the college requires this position to be available evenings, nights, and weekends to respond to calls regarding questions or problems with distance education needs and system troubleshooting.
