The primary function of the AV Media Technical Specialist is to ensure scheduled events are successful in their use of AV technology on campus. The AV Media Technical Specialist will administer, operate, and maintain technical equipment and systems, to ensure quality and dependability, as well as provide operational coverage when necessary.
Reporting to the Manager of AV Services and Engineering, the AV Media Technical Specialist will focus operation of control room PTZ cameras, production switchers, and video encoders, as well as assisting Harvard Medical School (HMS) staff, faculty, students, and hospital affiliates with presentation support This position will provide on-site technical support and repair services at HMS and will be regularly assigned to help plan and support a diverse set of events with varying technical and support requirements across a range of unique spaces and equipment configurations, as well as quickly respond to
3-5 years of AV experience working independently and proactively in a fast-paced, high pressure, and high-profile environment.
Experience operating pan, tilt, zoom (PTZ) cameras and production video switchers.
Web conferencing solutions, such as Cisco Telepresence systems, Webex Meetings, Webex Teams, and Zoom.
Experience with in-room AV presentation infrastructure technologies, such as Extron, Crestron, and Biamp.
Experience with Windows and Mac computers for desktop support.
Adobe Creative Suite applications, such as Premiere Pro. Basic video editing skills.
Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift 40lbs. Must be able to utilize ladders and/or mechanical lifts for maintenance of audio-visual equipment installed in overhead environments.
Proven track record of performing duties professionally with high-profile clients and in high-stress production environments.
Experience in higher education preferred.
CTS certification recommended.
Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, and enthusiasm and empathy for those who struggle to acquire technological audiovisual competencies.
Experience with video content management systems and learning management systems is highly preferred.
Familiarity with service management software (ServiceNow) for tracking issues.
Experience editing websites, creating multimedia content, and using screen capture tools, such as Camtasia, is beneficial.
Prior experience in audiovisual technology, as well as familiarity working in higher education, is desirable.
Standard 8-hour shift range between 7 am and 7 pm, and may change based on coverage needs. Evenings and weekend hours may also be required.
