Under the general supervision of the School of Pharmacy IT Manager, this position is the initial contact point for faculty and staff for training/troubleshooting/fixing hardware, software and electronic equipment problems. The Senior Computer Specialist supports and maintains approximately 150 Windows and Macintosh computers. In addition, the Senior Computer Specialist supports instructional technology and works with faculty to enhance their teaching. Responsibilities:*Set up all new computers for use, and orient faculty and staff to their computers upon arrival*Create, maintain, and improve workflow procedures within our environment, including scheduling, prioritization, and successful execution for end-users*Provide technical support to computer users in the use of a variety of application software packages and respond to hardware/software problems with corrective procedures*Provide IT best practice education to faculty and staff*Coordinate repair scheduling, service requests, records maintenance, service contracts, user accounts, security, and workstation configurations*Use diagnostic tools and troubleshooting processes to determine if problems are due to equipment; resolve, or refer complex problems to software support or vendor support services*Install and configure newly acquired Windows and Mac OS workstations, printers, and peripheral devices*Maintain existing hardware at OS levels consistent with UW-IT security requirements*Assist with the creation and maintenance of automated workstation build procedures and scripts*Maintain records on hardware and software configurations and network performance and configurations and follow up with users and technical staff to ensure problem resolution and customer satisfaction*Maintain documentation on users, systems, support, and others as necessary within our organizational environment*Assist with the maintenance of records on hardware and software in use throughout the School of Pharmacy; work with administrative staff to inventory and insure equipment as necessary*Assist with the management of license agreements*Assign NTFS permission on shares and manage UW Group members*Support faculty/staff with setup of technology to share and work with data, including Google Suite and MS SharePoint OnlineAssist with A/V support and troubleshooting*Phone*Video conferencing hardware and software (including Zoom)*Teleconferencing*Assist faculty/staff with teaching aids, materials, and equipment associated with classroom instruction*Assist faculty with creating, updating, and maintaining course websites in Canvas*Provide training on teaching and learning tools such as Zoom, Panopto, and Poll Everywhere*Research and share learning technologies that might benefit the School*Liaise with UW Learning Technologies, UW-IT, and various Communities of Practice on campus to ensure School is current on all available tools and best practices*Resolve support calls for remote users*VPN*Remote desktop*Mobile phones*WWAN cards*Working with the School of Pharmacy Dean's Office - IT team, determine or perform the following:*Data access requirements for internal and external customers*Cost-effective and reliable vendor selection for hardware, software, and services*Other duties as assignedAs a UW employee, you will enjoy generous benefits and work/life programs.
