The person in this position will work with the Standards team and subject matter expert volunteers to create audiovisual industry standards.
The Standards Developer is responsible for supporting and maintaining task groups and for standards development. As a member of the Standards team, the person in this position will ensure that standards are researched, developed, reviewed, and approved in a timely fashion while adhering to appropriate development procedures. Primary responsibilities of this position include support for AVIXA’s standard task groups, its subject matter experts, standard development, draft writing processes, job aid creation, review processes, publication, and maintenance of the standards expert pool.
Work with task group moderators to set agendas and schedules
Facilitate meetings (virtual and face-to-face if required), document and distribute meeting notes, send reminders
Follow ANSI and InfoComm procedural guidelines for standard development
Disseminate relevant information to task groups both in and outside of meetings
Develop and support project timelines and milestones to meet deadlines
Research and Draft Development
Initiate and manage task group preparation and writing of standard drafts
Research, analyze, purchase and distribute other standards and relevant documents for task group review
Monitor the development of documents in process
Prepare standard drafts for publication
Prepare standards-related text for webinars, overviews, marketing materials, and web pages
Support creation of derivatives for standards; translate technical and non-technical documents between Standards and Education as required
Develop content for the Standards web pages and maintain the pages for accuracy
Assist team with planning for meeting logistics, trade shows, and other events
Maintain standards overview documentation
Other duties as assigned. This position requires travel at least 9 days of the calendar year, and some weekend work may be required.
BS/BA degree in a technical discipline or equivalent experience in standards development or the audiovisual industry
Ability to thoroughly research technical subject matter
Ability to manage a long-term project timeline
Ability to assimilate technical concepts
Experience working with minimal supervision
A minimum of 2 years of experience working with committees and publication of academic documents
Advanced writing and verbal communication skills
Experience facilitating remote meetings and taking accurate meeting notes
Experience with or the ability to work with subject matter experts and volunteers
Working knowledge of the professional audiovisual industry; disciplines of audio and/or video experience a plus
Strong attention to detail and ability to work on several projects at one time
Experience with online meeting software, spreadsheet software, word processing software
Project management software a plus. Smartsheet and LucidChart experience a plus
CTS, CTS-D, or CTS-I credential highly desired
AV Technologist certificate a plus
