The University of Notre Dame (ND.jobs) is accepting applications for a Art Handler.

The Art Handler will work under the guidance of the Exhibitions Coordinator to cut mats, hinge, and frame works of art and assist with the physical inventory of 28,000+ objects in the museum collection. With the Assistant Preparator they will install permanent and temporary art exhibitions, move artworks, properly store artworks, pack artworks for shipment, and unpack as needed. Exhibition installation work to include: repair and paint walls; fabricate and paint display pedestals and risers; safely secure art to walls and pedestals; fabricate and install exhibitions, labels, text panels, and photo panels; install vinyl letters; adjust lights; and install computer monitors, Smart TVs, iPads, audiovisual equipment, etc., in galleries.
Minimum Qualifications: Knowledge of art museum standards for collections care and safe art handling; general construction and painting skills; ability to safely operate power tools, work with adhesives and paint; education and experience with 2-D and 3-D design; able to design and produce simple text and photo panels with word processing or graphic-design software; working familiarity with design software such as Adobe Illustrator, In-Design, Photoshop, SketchUp, etc., and with desktop software such as Google Calendar, Box, and Word; utilize EmBark collections management software; ability to cut and hinge mats, and to frame artworks; and interest in working with artists and students. Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs alone and have no fear of heights, climbing and working from ladders. Current drivers license; and must either already be certified or become certified in the safe operation of both a forklift and a motorized aerial work platform.
