Departmental Overview Educational Technology Services (ETS) enhances and supports the UC Berkeley academic experience by providing essential, responsive, and innovative technology services. The unit is part of the Research Teaching and Learning (RTL) organization. RTL directly improves and supports educational technology on the UC Berkeley campus through its implementations of technology in general assignment classrooms, local implementation of a variety of learning systems including the campus' learning management system, student portal, course capture, technology support for academic events and scholarly activities, video production and distribution, and services that support online collaboration. Responsibilities Reporting to the Manager of Classroom Technology, the Instructional Audio Visual Technician works in the Classroom Technology Support service team to provide technical and audio/visual support to the UC Berkeley community which includes faculty, students, staff and guests. This position provides customer support to users of AV and IT equipment in classrooms and event spaces, maintains equipment and collaborates with colleagues to ensure services of the highest quality are delivered to the campus community.
Coordinate and provide support to a range of technical AV functions for classes or events held on campus.
Provide instruction to faculty, staff, students, and guests in the use of AV technology. Propose technical options that meet desired goals.
Provide AV technical support for walk-ups, via the phone, or on-location.
Proactively work with teaching teams to ensure effective use of technology in the classroom.
Operate, troubleshoot and maintain audio-visual equipment including, but not limited to, projectors, control systems, matrix and routing switchers, video-conferencing, video capture, and sound reinforcement systems.
Participate in scheduling and monitoring the systems used to capture and encode course video recordings.
Train and oversee student employees on the front line in both classroom and help desk support.
Review media services requests and perform a variety of administrative duties to assist with scheduling: reply to messages, confirm requests, and follow up on incomplete or inaccurate data in requests.
Must be able to accurately follow standard audio visual services policies and procedures.
Must be available to work starting at 7a.m. as well as be flexible to adjust schedule as needed.
Occasionally required to work outside of normal scheduled hours
Demonstrated experience with AV/IT.
Understanding of and passion for higher ed teaching/learning
Strong commitment to customer service; strong interpersonal skills and positive attitude; ability to communicate with a diverse constituency.
Ability to work effectively as a member of a team and independently..
Familiarity with video conferencing hardware and software; display preferences for both Macs and PCs, switching for conference presentations.
General knowledge of Powerpoint, Keynote, PDF slide show, and Google Slides software. Basic knowledge of network addressing for network connectivity.
Ability to successfully manage many simultaneous work items of changing priority
Strong ownership, accountability, and attention to detail in all work efforts
Must be able to frequently lift, push and pull up to 50 lbs with no restrictions
Clean driving record.
Industry recognized technical certifications a plus.
