Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Technical Director for the New Brunswick Student Centers. This position reports to the Executive Director of Student Centers and Activities and has primary responsibility for planning, directing, deploying, coordinating, managing, and assessing all technical systems, equipment, technical staff, and technical services to ensure they consistently meet the needs of events held in the Student Centers and other campus venues. The six Centers, spread over five campuses in New Brunswick and Piscataway, composing of 400,000 square-feet combined, contain over 40 meetings rooms, host over 16,000 bookings annually, and have a foot-traffic equivalent of over 7.5 million people a year. The Technical Director is responsible for setting the priorities, goals, standards and vision for a comprehensive technical production team consisting of students, professional staff, and consultants which supports the large volume of productions put forth by the various areas of the department.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Supports and directs effective assessment, development, and implementation of policies, standards, learning outcomes, strategic initiatives and project prioritization for the Student Centers and Activities areas.
Takes an active leadership role in departmental and university initiatives, given the cross functional nature of the department.
Collaborates regularly with and is expected to maintain productive working relationships with other university departments including Facilities, Environmental Services, Security and Technologies, Student Affairs Information Technology, Public Safety, Risk Management, Procurement, Dining Services, RUTV, Conference Services, Alumni Relations, Admissions, Academic Schools, the President's Office, and the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, among others.
Provides support and advisement to the theater-based student organizations on campus who frequently utilize our Centers as well as the Cabaret Theater for productions.
Minimum Education and Experience:
A bachelor’s degree in communication, theatrical management, hospitality, or a technology related field required; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
A minimum of five years professional work experience in hotel, conference center, facility management, event management, college union operations, or other related venues.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Demonstrated effective progressive management experience in directing large and diverse staff, large inventory, at multiple sites (or facilities) simultaneously is required.
Demonstrated experience in implementing effective organizational, detail-oriented systems, procedures, and protocols to manage staff and assets.
Possess good written and verbal communication skills.
Experience developing and conducting effective training on audio-visual system and equipment; proving ability to adjust training delivery format and style to meet audience's needs.
Demonstrated effective ability to work under stress while completing complex projects with multiple competing timelines.
Effective experience in managing and analyzing budgets.
Demonstrated successful experience in exhibiting superb customer service philosophy and practices and ability to train accordingly.
Must be able to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends as events demands.
Demonstrated proficiency with computer, software, and basic networking maintenance and support required.
Proven experience to relate effectively, to program for and manage diverse groups of staff, college student employees, and student volunteers is necessary.
Ability to lift moderately heavy items is necessary.
Crestron certification or ability to be trained and certified preferred.
Event Management System (EMS), ETC software, Crestron control systems and components, audio systems, Cat5/6 encoder/decoder systems for audio and video, Newtek Tricaster, and other related video and sound equipment.
Able to properly and timely identify and repair problems with lighting and audio equipment including intelligent lighting.
