The Principal Audio/Visual Media Producer at the Institute on Community Integration (ICI) will be responsible for producing, directing, and editing professional educational and awareness media programs supporting the well-being and inclusion of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and those receiving educational supports, and their families. Production work will include topical research, developing treatments, writing scripts, creating and managing budgets, scouting locations, securing permissions, recruiting and hiring on-camera and voice talent, at times hiring additional crew, traveling to local and national locations, lighting sets, recording audio, and shooting video. Post-production will include offline/online editing, creating motion graphics, color correction, sound sweetening, closed captioning, and transcoding files for broadcast, projection, and web delivery. The Principal Audio/Visual Media Producer will work as part of ICI’s marketing and communications team and report to the Marketing and Business Development Manager.
Create Original Video Programming (90%)
Interpret research, training, and outreach needs.
Develop manage, produce, and edit original video and audio programming.
Schedule interviews, b-roll shoots, determine locations, and assemble crews as needed.
Work independently or in collaboration with others, including writers, graphic designers, researchers, trainers, and IT staff.
Produce and direct documentary and educational media for various RTC, ICI, U-MN, and community projects supporting people with disabilities.
Write project treatments, scripts, budgets, and proposals for funding.
Edit interviews, b-roll, graphics, music, and other media into final productions that meet broadcast standards.
Manage secure storage and archiving of media.
Ensure all video programs are closed captioned.
Travel as needed for location shoots. Responsible for transporting heavy video, lighting, and support equipment.
Communications Support and Consulting (10%)
Consult with principal investigators and project staff on when to use specific media in research, training, and outreach projects.
Participate in ICI’s marketing and communications team to strategize effective strategies for promoting the work of ICI.
BA/BS Degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Art or related field or non-communication related degree with additional two years of professional communications experience.
Four years of professional communications experience. Non-communications degreed individuals must have six years of progressive responsibility in communications.
Demonstrated professional experience as a filmmaker or media producer working both independently and with professional crews (sound, lighting, grip, talent).
Experience working with and on behalf of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Expert technical knowledge of video equipment, including an advanced understanding of principles of photography, lighting, and sound.
Demonstrated ability to translate complex ideas into useful and entertaining visual stories.
Demonstrated experience in conducting interviews for video and radio/podcasts.
A strong portfolio of professional productions, showing expertise in visual storytelling.
Proven experience in effective script writing for technical, educational, and documentary programs.
Expertise in Adobe Premiere, Photoshop, and After Effects.
