Cheshire Academy seeks a full-time Theater teacher for the upcoming 2019-20 academic year.
The successful candidate will have a strong background in technical theater with a degree in theater or commensurate professional experience in the industry. The candidate will have a keen interest in developing students as theater technicians and should have strong theater management, teaching and leadership skills. The ability to be collaborative and innovative in a high school environment would be essential to the position.
Classroom teaching responsibilities include 4 to 5 classes per semester in the Dramatic Arts, IB Theatre or related classes.
Specific responsibilities include:
Support the artistic vision of the theater director by managing all phases of production from rehearsal to performance for three shows in rthe Afternoon Theater Program.
Design and coordinate the construction and operation of the stage set, lighting, costume design, sound and/or projections with a stage crew of students for performing arts productions throughout the year.
Manage, set up, operate and maintain sound, lighting and AV equipment for events, assemblies and concerts.
Manage and maintain the theater facilities, equipment and inventory.
Act in the role of advisor to a small group of students.
Other responsibilities include
Coaching and/or leading extra-curricular activities
Weekend team responsibilities
Residential/dormitory duties (if you are a residential faculty member)
Must have a valid driver’s license with the ability to obrtain a CT “A” endorsement for purposes of transporting students.
A bachelor’s degree in fine arts, theater or related field is required. Applicants must be energetic, passionate educators who embrace their participation in the entire boarding school experience. Experience with the with International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme is preferred.
