LSA Instructional Support Services is looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual to support faculty and students with instructional technology in the College of LSA. Individuals in this position would also support a variety of events held on the University of Michigan’s Central Campus. This position will involve working in support of collaborative learning and presentation and in support of a wide range of pedagogical activities; collaborating with instructors and staff with an emphasis on clear, concise and diplomatic communication to resolve issues and operational aspects of rich media presentation and use; and setting up and operating a variety of instructional technology and AV equipment. Individuals in this position will be expected to participate in on-the-job training in order to gain skills and expertise, potentially also including media support for special events and conferences, videography, video conferencing, video streaming, lecture capture and/or projection using two-machine, change-over 35mm projection systems. Individuals in this position will be expected to participate in assisting callers, walk-in patrons and colleagues in resolving issues, answering questions, triaging requests for assistance, and doing on-site assistance as appropriate. The individual in this position will be required to provide service-oriented high quality customer service to instructors and other patrons; assist faculty and students to interact with audio/visual and computer technology and media in classrooms, as well as with equipment they bring with them; train faculty and students to use ISS classroom facilities and equipment; troubleshoot technical issues, as well as track, resolve, and follow up on operational problems with equipment and facilities; clean and maintain equipment as necessary; assist colleagues in the evaluation and documentation of new technologies; conduct equipment inventories and classroom maintenance audits; assist in the maintenance of web-based inventory and asset management databases; answer customer service calls and take equipment reservations from patrons; back-up colleagues in the technical assistance desk operations when needed; supervise and mentor employees as appropriate. Duties include set-up, operation, maintenance and troubleshooting a wide range of media presentation and classroom technologies, including single and multiple data projectors, document cameras, interactive computer monitors, videoconferencing equipment, laptops and tablet PCs, media playback equipment, audio reinforcement systems, audio and video recording equipment, podcast equipment, lecture capture equipment, etc. Primary areas of job responsibility are:
30% Provide service-oriented high quality customer service to instructors and other patrons, assisting with audio/visual and computer technology and media in LSA classrooms and elsewhere. Respond to faculty, staff and student needs, and collaborate with other ISS staff and LSAIT-IC staff to identify, and implement appropriate AV technology solutions for teaching and learning. This includes:
20% Troubleshoot technical issues, as well as track, resolve, and follow up on operational problems with equipment and facilities, cleaning and maintaining equipment as necessary 10% Train faculty and students in use of ISS classroom facilities, equipment, and new instructional technologies, as assigned; act as back-up for colleagues in when needed; supervise and mentor student employees, as appropriate.
5% Interface with web based reservation system to maintain equipment inventory and data collection; work on teams to conduct equipment inventory and classroom maintenance audits, assist in the maintenance of web-based inventory and asset management databases; Assist colleagues in the evaluation, documentation, and implementation of new technologies 5% Communicate and cooperate with colleagues on projects and technologies in team meetings and via electronic communication and social networking software
