The primary objective of the Lead Instructional A/V Engineer is to provide technical expertise in the design, installation and ongoing support of Campus Presentation Technologies, including assisting in physical installation and maintenance of equipment in all university classrooms, conference rooms and other spaces supported on campus. They will also be responsible for troubleshooting both immediate and non-immediate technical help calls.
Essential Duties
Maintain, support, and troubleshoot all presentation technology in Bentley’s 70+ hybrid-technology enabled classrooms, array of high-tech “specialty labs”, and any facility utilizing presentation technologies.
Perform field service support and maintenance of all presentation technologies on campus, including equipment installed to support the functions overseen by The Conference Center (TCC).
Identify and respond to any equipment failure and oversee repair, troubleshoot technology and faculty/student/staff usability issues in teaching and learning and conferencing environments.
Triage issues to provide prompt and effective responses.
Follow up with all customers to ensure all service issues are resolved to their satisfaction. Provide customer feedback to the management team.
Provide custom and targeted faculty, student, and staff services, and oversee/perform unscheduled repair and maintenance of equipment.
Support the manager in developing and delivering training and documentation for the student staff and faculty.
Support the manager in researching, identifying, and recommending new technologies and trends in presentation technologies.
Ability to resolve tickets and support calls in a timely manner.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's with at least 6 years of experience OR a HS Diploma / GED equivalent with 8 years of relevant experience.
A CTS certification from AVIXA and/or other manufacturer-based certifications is a plus (AMX, Biamp, Crestron, Extron, etc. QSC preferred.)
Strong technical background in presentation technology, particularly on digital audio processors/mic systems and their applications/programming is preferred.
Familiarity with network-enabled A/V systems is a plus.
Expertise with any one of the A/V control systems such as Extron, QSC, or Crestron is required.
Strong A/V and computer related technical skills is a must.
Strong Customer service skills (faculty, students and staff) with a focus on communication and empathy, as well as maintaining minimal downtime of the technology infrastructure.
Expertise using and supporting web conferencing platforms and digital collaboration tools such as Zoom, Teams, SMART technologies, and other Microsoft applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
Physical Demands
Ability to regularly perform physical tasks including ascending/descending ladders; must be able to individually lift and move equipment up to 50 pounds, and up to 100 pounds with the assistance of others; ability to move mobile carts containing equipment.
Time spent at a workstation/repair bench is spent testing and repairing equipment and contacting those with whom maintenance services must be coordinated
Fine motor skills are required to accomplish testing and repair
The ability to work with equipment in hard-to-reach areas is frequently required
Work Environment
A significant amount of time is spent out of the office testing and tuning equipment, supporting faculty, interacting with other members of the Bentley community as well as vendors, and resolving service calls. Frequent movement between campus buildings.
Speed and accuracy are often required while responding to service calls in the field. In contact with office is via cell phone
Work Schedule
Regular weekly schedule of 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Monday - Friday unless otherwise arranged with the manager.
Occasionally, there will be on call duties outside of regular work hours, including weekends.
Summer hours will provide the opportunity for a 4-day (35-hour) week with the following Friday off. These summer hours may be rotated among the team due to support needs. Your regular shift hours will be subject to change during the summer.
All working hours and shifts are subject to change due to classroom and event support needs.
