The Audio-Visual Systems Engineer is responsible for all design aspects of the job, including layout and various audio/visual specifications. The Audio Visual (AV) Systems Engineer works in conjunction with our sales department and project management to take complex AV systems from inception to completion and client acceptance. This covers all design, support, testing, and troubleshooting of complex systems related to our market including classrooms, special spaces, conference rooms, gyms, theatres, and cafeterias. The design process includes equipment and technology research and coordination with vendors. Assist with final system testing and client training.
Punctuality and precision are very important in this position, so time-management skills are highly beneficial. Audiovisual engineers are also responsible for researching and implementing new software, as well as technological developments to improve various aspects of the job. They typically work in conjunction with other staff members, so strong verbal and written communication skills are also important.
A bachelor's degree in the field of electronic technology and at least five years of design/installation experience are generally required for this position, and aspiring audiovisual design engineers should also have extensive knowledge of field-related software programs. Some work-related travel may be required.
Support customer design requirements from conceptual design through “As Built” phase of the design process.
Develop designs that meet customer functional and budgetary requirements.
Develop detailed scope of work documents to complement system design and specifications.
Generating functional and connection-level drawings and design for video, audio, control, LAN and communications subsystems, including preparation of D-Tools/AutoCAD drawings and documentation.
Perform site visits to review installation standards, assist in commissioning, system programming and turn on.
Provide equipment and technology research and coordination with vendors. Selection and qualification of equipment and software required for custom integration solutions.
Prepare A/V construction drawings including: plans, RCP’s, cabinet layouts, equipment rack elevations, room details, construction details, riser diagrams and AV functional schematics.
Provide continuous engineering support throughout the project, from inception through implementation.
System and Equipment configuration, customer training and ongoing system’s service.
Provide structural, BIM and MEP coordination.
Continue to maintain technical capabilities and certifications in the following technical areas: IT networks and systems, audio/video and broadcast technologies that support these technically diverse systems areas.
Assist with CAD-related tasks as required including: set up new drawing packages, project and file management, assist in maintaining CAD standards, and block library.
Create equipment specifications, and bills of materials budgets for cost estimating and purchasing.
Write system turn on and operational manuals per contract requirements
Experience specifying projectors screens and room design.
Experience specifying and configuring sound reinforcement systems.
Familiarity with audio video teleconference equipment.
Five years of Broadcast and/or AV infrastructure design and installation experience.
Familiarity with AMX, Crestron, Extron, Biamp, BSS, Q-SYS, Peavey, etc…
Knowledge of AutoCAD, MS Office, Visio and Database Programs.
Broadcast and/or AV systems deployment experience including installation, commissioning and end user training.
Ability to read and understand construction drawings (architectural, mechanical, and electrical systems) and related documentation.
Strong interpersonal skills, excellent oral and written communication skills.
Must be able to manage strict timelines and multiple installation teams to meet deadlines.
Ability to interact with field personnel, management and customers.
Must be eligible to work in the US without sponsorship.
Professional certifications (CTS, CTS-D, CTS-I, CEDIA) are a plus.
S, A.S. in Electronic Technologies or a related field. Equivalent experience and/or military training.
CCNA, CCNE Certification.
